Things to do
Yosemite is huge, crowded, and seasonal. A better first visit starts in the Valley, then adds the waterfall, grove, overlook, or high-country day that fits your dates.
Make this the first full day: Tunnel View, El Capitan Meadow, Lower Yosemite Fall, Cook's Meadow, Sentinel Bridge, and one longer walk if the group still has energy.
Spring and early summer are the big-water months. Lower Yosemite Fall is the easy start; Mist Trail and Vernal Fall need more time, traction, and crowd patience.
The sequoias are worth a separate block, especially if you enter or leave through Highway 41. Check shuttle status before promising the group an easy grove day.
When the road is open, the overlook changes the whole park. It is not a casual add-on from every gateway, so pair it with the right lodging side.
Summer high-country days can add Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, and a completely different Yosemite mood. Outside the open season, build the trip without it.
Meadow walks, picnic pullouts, and late-day river views are not filler here. They are how the park stays beautiful after the famous stops get crowded.
The sequoias sit near the south entrance, which makes them wonderful for some trips and awkward for others. If your lodging is on Highway 41, they can be a beautiful first or final day. If you are staying north or west, check drive times before adding the grove to an already full Valley day.
